Maisan ga ibento o shoukai shite kuremashita. Mai told you about an upcoming event.

Nan no ibento ga itsu arimasu ka. What is the event and when is it ?

Kore kore. Kondo kimono show ga arimasu. Here it is. There's a kimono show soon.

Issho ni ikimasen ka. Do you want to go with us ?



Sarasan ga Kawasaki sensei no ie ni asobi ni kimashita. Sara has come to see Ms Kawasaki at her house.

A) Kawasaki : A, kinyoubi, ikebana kontesuto ga arimasu yo. Ah, there's a flower arranging contest on Friday.

B) Sara : A-, ii desu ne. Sensei wa mi ni ikimasu ka. Ah, that sounds good. Will you go to see it, Ms Kawasaki ?

A) Kawasaki : Hai, itsumo ikimasu. Kotoshi mo tabun mi ni ikimasu. Yes, I always go. I'll probably go again this year.

B) Sara : Dare to ikimasu ka. Who(m) will you go with ?

A) Kawasaki : Tomidachi to desu. With my friends.

      ni        masu



Basic sentence

いちがつに さっぽろに  いきます。

Ichi-gatsu ni Sapporo ni ikimasu.

I'll go to Sapporo in January.



Use

Used when saying what one does (or will do) and when.



Structure

~ ようび

Examples

日よう日に   パーティーに   いきます。

Nichiyoobi ni paatii ni ikimasu.

I'll go to the party on Sunday.

A: いつ    とうきょうに   いきますか。

A: Itsu Tookyoo ni ikimasu ka.

A: When will you go to Tokyo?


B: さんがつに    いきます。

B: San-gatsu ni ikimasu.

B: I'll go there in March.

Commentary

A

「に」indicates that N is the time an event takes place.


B

「に」  cannot be preceded by words like 「今 (いま)」「きのう」「きょう」「あした」ot the interrogative「いつ」.(3)

N1 (Place)    で     N2 (Happening/ Event)   が    あります。

JFスポーツセンターでけんどうが  あります。

JF-Supootsu-Sentaa de kendoo ga arimasu.

There's kendo at tze JF sports center.

みなとまちで   ゴールデンウイークにいろいろな  イベントが  あります。

Minato-Machi de Gooruden-Uiiku ni iroirona ibento ga arimasu.

There are various events held in Minato-Machi during Golden Week.

A

「N があります」indicates that an event or happening takes place in this case.


「で」is used to indicate the place the event took place, rather than「に」.

       o         ni ikimasu



Basic sentence

すもうを みに いきます。

Sumoo o mi ni ikimasu.

I'll go to watch sumo wrestling.



Use

Used when saying what one goes (will go) to do.



Structure

V    に    いきます。

Only studied in MARUGOTO (Starter A1 Rikai)



Examples

わたしは   ぼんさいコンテストを   見に   いきます。

Watashi wa bonsai-kontesuto o mi ni ikimasu.

I'll go to watch a bonsai concert.

こうえんに   しゃしんを   とりに   いきます。

Kooen ni shashin o tori ni ikimasu.

I go to the park to take pictures.

A: らいしゅうの    やすみに    なにを     しますか。

A: Raishuu no yasumi ni nani o shimasu ka.

A: What are you going to do on your next day off?


B: アニメの   DVDを   かいに    いきます。

B: Anime no diibuidii o kai ni ikimasu.

B: I'm going to buy some anime DVDs.




Commentary

A

V1 can be made by removing 「ます」from「Vます」, as in「行(い)きます--> 行(い)き」.


B

「に」 indicates that V is the purpose of the movement one makes.

         masen ka            mashoo



Basic sentence

いっしょに   こうえんに   いきませんか。

Issho ni kooen ni ikimasen ka.

Why don't we go to the park together?


いきましょう。

Ikimashoo.

Yes, shall we?



Use

「~ ませんか」is used when inviting someone to do something.

「~ ましょう」is used as a response when accepting an invitation.



Structure

   いっしょに    V   ませんか。  V     ましょう。



Examples

A: あした   いっしょに   こうえんに    いきませんか。

A: Ashita issho ni kooen ni ikimasen ka.

A: Do you want to go to the park with me tomorrow?


B: いいですね。いきましょう。

B: Ii desu ne. Ikimashoo.

B: That's a good idea. Let's go.

A: らいしゅう    まつりが    ありますよ。いっしょに  見に   いきませんか。

A: Raishuu matsuri ga arimasu yo. Issho ni mi ni ikimasen ka.

A: There is a festival next week. Do you want to go and watch it together?


B:  いいですね。見に   いきましょう。

B: Ii desu ne. Mi ni ikimashoo.

B: Yes. Let's go watch.

A: 土よう日に   いっしょに    カラオケを   しませんか。

A: Doyoobi ni issho ni karaoke o shimasen ka.

A: Do you want to go to karaoke with me on Saturday?


B: 土よう日は   ちょっと  ... 。 すみません。

A

When declining an invitation, the following response is often used: 「~ はちょっと ... 。すみません。」「~ はだめです。すみません。」 (3)

Note: ちょっと = a bit
