Bunpou Grammar

Ichibanme no otoko no ko toiu imi 

means the first (oldest) boy

N toiu imi

Used when explaining the meaning of names and places

Namae ya basho no imi o setsumeisuru tokini tsukau


Structure kamaetsukuruzu kouzou zu

Example sentences Reibun

1. Yuuko wa yasashii ko to iu imi desu.

Yuko means a kind child.


2. Baumku-hen wa ki o ke-kito iu imidesu.

Baumkuchen means " tree cake".

Used when saying the name of a place.

Tanakasan works in a company called JF Foods.

3. A) Shinsan, shusshin wa doko desu ka. Shinsan, where are you from ?

B) Indo desu. Indo no bangaro-ru toiu tokoro desu. I'm from India. I come from a place called Bangalore in India.


Commentary kaisetsu 

- Used when talking about the name of something that may not be familiar to the listener, such as the names of towns or companies. Kikite nitotte amarinajimiga nai machi ya kaishamei nado ni tsuite hanasu toki ni tsukau.

Kaisetsu

- Futsuukei no bubun wa, kako no koto, shuukanteki ni suru koto, ima shite iru koto, korekara suru koto nado, itsu no dousa ka niyotte jisei ga kawaru. The tense of the part in plsin form changes depending on the time of action : whether the event occurred in tge past, is regularly done, is being done now, or will be done from now on.
